Are they water-repellent and suitable for snow?

Yes. Boiled wool is naturally water-repellent - snow and light rain run off the surface instead of soaking straight in. For long play in wet snow or heavy rain, add a waterproof layer on top. These trousers do not replace a membrane snowsuit, but for most winter days they are entirely enough on their own.
